The Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) is a flagship scheme implemented by the Department of Fisheries, Government of India (DoF, GoI) towards harnessing of fisheries potential in a sustainable, responsible, inclusive and equitable manner. The scheme aims to address the critical gaps across the fisheries value chain and significantly enhance fish production, productivity, quality, and profitability for stakeholders, while ensuring long-term ecological sustainability. The scheme is under implementation from FY 2020-21 to 2025-26 in all States/UTs including Maharashtra.
During last five years, under PMMSY, the Department has approved fisheries development proposals of Government of Maharashtra amounting to Rs. 1462.92 crore with central share of Rs. 555.05 crore, and Rs.336.78 crore of central funds has already been released. The approvals includes various fisheries activities towards enhancing fish production, productivity, strengthening infrastructure facilities, development of cold chain and marketing facilities, sustainability of resources and activities towards fishermen safety and welfare. Under the PMMSY, the beneficiaries are identified by the respective State Governments. Government of Maharashtra has informed that 44 individual beneficiaries and 01 fisheries cooperative from Palghar District have been benefitted under the PMMSY. The DoF, GoI, under the PMMSY has notified ‘Fisheries Cooperatives Cluster’ in Raigad as leading district and Ratnagiri as partnering district in Maharashtra.
The DoF, GoI, under the PMMSY and Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) has approved 5 Fishing Harbors and 9 Fish Landing Centres including one fishing harbour at Satpati, Palghar district with a total project cost of Rs.267.12 crore. Government of Maharashtra has also informed that a Fish Landing Centre has been also approved at Dhakati, Dahanu at the State level under the NABARD scheme. The fisheries projects under PMMSY and other schemes are approved based on the proposals submitted by the respective State Governments/UTs. There is no proposal pending at DoF, GoI for development of fishing harbour at Arnala, Maharashtra.
